Susceptibility of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease Symptoms in Medical Students: A Formative Study
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is a common chronic condition that can significantly reduce quality of life and result in high morbidity. Medical students, who often experience high levels of pressure during their training, may be especially susceptible to this condition. Various factors, such as lifestyle choices, eating habits, medication, and mental stress, can contribute to the onset of GERD.
Dr. Eviana B. Sutanato and her team conducted a study to explore the relationship between risk factors and the development of GERD among medical students. The study found that the prevalence of GERD among these students is relatively high and identified a significant link between the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and the occurrence of GERD.
